I always have this impression that travelling with a baby is almost MISSION IMPOSSIBLE! However, after our very first trip with Ansley, it is actually NOT THAT BAD!

FIRST THING FIRST! Location will be the deciding factor for a lot of things! The Penang trip is like a TEST TRIP to us to check out on Ansley’s reaction towards plane ride, local food and water and etc…

Tips on selecting destination
1)  Keep flight hours within 3 hours or even lesser (you will never ever know if your baby can take the air pressure)

2) A baby friendly environment (Toilet…. Supermarket.… In case you need something, you know you can get it)

3) Car, Taxi, MRT or busses can be easily accessible

That’s why we have chosen Penang, even though Thailand is also less than 3 hours flight! And we are more confident driving on Penang’s road as compared to Bangkok.

After you have confirmed, the SECOND THING to consider about is FOOD! I’m not sure about you, but for me, Ansley only eat HOMECOOKED FOOD, as I’m afraid of MSG stuffs. SO, we started to check with the hotel if they have porridge and tried to find some instant food that is filling for toddlers. THIS STEP IS VERY SUBJECTIVE! If you are okay with outside food, then it will not be a huge problem.

The THIRD THING is bringing Ansley to the doctor the week before we fly! The rationale behind it is to ensure that Ansley is fit to travel and also to get medicines from the doctor in case of emergency! FLU… FEVER… COUGH…. DIARRHEA…. VOMITTING…. Just take whatever that you can think of!

And the FINAL THING is…. THE PACKING LIST! The kiasu me split the Packing List into two parts – one to be able to bring on board the plane and the other one is to be packed into the language…

Things to Pack On Board the Plane
- Clothes

- Diapers

- Insect Repellant

- Sunblock

- Handkerchiefs

- Bib

- Wet Tissue

- Tissue

- Sanitizer

- Milk Bottle

- Water Flask

- LOTS OF SNACKS

Things to Pack Travelling with Toddler
- Toothbrush

- Baby Shower Gel

- Moisturizing Lotion

- 如意油 (if you use it for your baby)

- Medicine

- Nappy Cream

- Baby Washing Detergent (for Ansley’s utensils)

- More Clothes

- More Diapers

- More Handkerchiefs

- More Bibs

- Pillow

- Blanket

- Swimsuit (in case the swimming pool is too difficult to resist)

- Thermal Flask for Food

- A Tin of Milk Powder

- Utensils

Immediately fill the milk bottle and water flask with water once you board the plane. As adults, we know that we can swallow saliva when our ears are blocked due to the plane taking off, but OUR BABY DON’T!

So one of the best way is to constantly feed them with WATER! Another method of mine is to give them SNACKS! Afraid that TOO MUCH SNACKS, is BAD FOR HEALTH? You can buy DRIED FRUITS and CUT THEM INTO MINIATURE SIZE! This way, they might only take two to three big pieces of the snacks, and the constantly opening of the box can be a form of distraction to them too!

THAT’S ALL I HAVE TO SHARE!

It is definitely not easy to travel with a baby or a toddler, but it is definitely not that difficult too! I believe the KEYWORD here is PLANNING!
